When signing up for the Online Publishing 1 class I thought I would not learn anything since I already took Online Publishing 2. Well that was a mistake. The Online Publishing 1 class gives the bases behind online writing, which I had only a small amount of information on.
Even though I had taken Online Publishing 2 I still thought of online writing was the same as print. After attempting to do the first assignment I notice I was wrong. The writing styles are so different.
Key things to remember when writing online:
- Bullet points are your friend.
- Cut the story word count in half
- Try to use few adjectives and adverbs
- Make the story easy to read
When remembering all of this you notice that your choice of words change while writing for online. With this it gives you a new writing style.
Also in Online Publishing 1 you learn more about other medias. With online you have the capabilities to use photos, videos and so much more. To use these devices you have to learn how to create them or edit them to fit with your stories.
We learn from the guess speakers the importance of video and how to edit them using Final Cut Pro.
With doing all of this we learn how to manage blog sites like Word Press and Blogspot. These two online writing sites are becoming well known in the online writing world. With this experience we can use them for our own writing blogs or maybe for a future job.
This class has been very interesting through out. Not only have I learn about a new writing style that is taking over my career but also meet some interesting people a long the way.
